Breakfast Dagwood

Well for my first blog I'd like to talk about the Breakfast Dagwoods I made last night for my husband, his friend from work, and myself. It was a midbreak snack during a game of Dungeons & Dragons. Yes, I play. Yes, I'm a novice. lol I think its fun. Anyway, onto the sandwhich.

History: I used to work at a Denny's resturant in Winslow, AZ. Back then this sandwhich was on the menu. Its a high calorie sandwhich, if you make it the size they offered then. Denny's took it off the menu. There is speculation they removed it due to its calorie content. I, for one, believe it was because of the price. At the time when I worked there the sandwhich cost around six dollars with hashbrowns. There is a lot of food and I think they thought they would have to up the price and no one would pay it. They didnt really think their would be the uproar thats happened since. oh well.

The Bread: It is a Boule Bread.

3 cups lukewarm water
1-1/2 tablespoons granulated yeast or 1-1/2 packet, whichever you prefer
1-1/2 tablespoons salt
6-1/2 cups unsifted, unbleached, all-purpose white flour

Preheat oven to 375
Place yeast in a bowl filled with the warm water. Mix the dry ingrediants in till you have a
wet ball. Cover and place in a warm place to let rise for about 2 hours. When it has risen seperate into 3-4 equal parts. You can refriderate or freeze these till ready to use. Take your dough and shape into a ball and place in sprayed baking pan. Allow to rise there, uncovered, for 30-40 minutes. Place in the oven and bake for about 30-45 minutes, depending on your oven.

The Sandwhich Contents: From Bottom to top: Sliced Chedder Cheese, Shaved Ham, Sliced Swiss Cheese, Bacon, Scrambled Eggs with Sausage bits mixed in.

You simply layer the sandwhich as Ive described and your done!

FootNote: I took the bread recipe and for each boule I would cut it into three to make small sandwhiches. They make a great snack for the hearty eating men in your life!
also, I didnt think about it last night, so i didnt take a picture, the next time I make them ill most certainly take pictures and post them here.
